York Printers have established a carton printing and converting stronghold in the tough conditions of the Northeast. The robust growth of the Indian packaging industry is also reflected in the continued increase of label press installs.

While the government’s ban on some types of plastic packaging has sent the industry reeling we are surprised at the casual attitude of the packaging industry as far as credible statistics on plastic recycling. Another story notes P&G’s use of plastic shampoo bottles made from sugarcane, an aspect of the company’s vision to eventually use renewable sources and recycled materials for all of its packaging.

Considerable restructuring of the packaging industry continues as Oystar divests its process divisions to Bosch in order to focus on its primary and secondary packaging technology strengths. Both packaging technology multinationals have plants in India and it will be interesting to see them at interpack. Packaging is seen by many as a remedy for the massive waste of food that takes place globally and the Save Food Congress at interpack will discuss some of the innovative solutions that are needed.
