May 07, 2009 | By Naresh Khanna
In 2001 the IPP Group, which at the time consisted of the monthly trade magazine Indian Printer and Publisher and the IPP Conferences, created a new organisation called IPP Services, Training and Research Private Limited. IppStar as it is known has several aims for creating an industry-supported institution for the printing, publishing, and packaging segments.

IppStar’s first large syndicated research project – the Indian Print Industry Survey comprehensively established the baseline for the entire graphic arts related industries for the 2002-03 financial year for a syndicated group of clients. Subsequently, IppStar conducted several bespoke research projects for international organisations. IppStar is currently launching its Indian Print Industry Survey II from April 2009 to March 2010.
In the beginning of 2007, the IPP Group launched the bimonthly Packaging South Asia. Apart from numerous exhibition events in India, in the past sixteen months we have taken part as trade journalists in Interpack, drupa, Emballage and Grafitalia, Converflex and Ipack-Ima in Europe and in All in Print Shanghai in Asia. At all these events except Interpack, we have also had a shared stand with our partners in the Independent Media Alliance.
At China Print in Beijing in May, we will again be sharing a stand with our partners in the IMA. Look for Purva Sethi and Rahul Puri from Packaging South Asia to be there, together with Hye-Jeong Ahn of Graphics World, Korea and Patrick Howard of Print21, Australia at the IMA stand — W2-222.
Next, we will be at the PackPlus exhibition at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi from 8 to 11 July 2009. In conjunction with the PackPlus exhibition, IppStar will organise a comprehensive human resource event for the packaging industry right on the show floor. This event will highlight the promising careers in the technology driven packaging industry. Seminars and company presentations will focus on some of the industry’s human resource issues in an attempt to more meaningfully attract the best young people to the numerous attractive growth paths that it offers.
The second event that IppStar is organising this year is a Monsoon Summit to bring awareness of the importance of the ISO-12647-2 standard for colour printing and to discuss the paths to implementation and certification. These events will take place on 14, 16 and 18 July 2009 in Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai respectively, and will involve several international speakers who are ISO committee members from Ugra and other organisations and companies.
Delegate fees are Rs. 5,000 including taxes for this event and it is recommended for all companies that wish to move toward quality reproduction standardisation. It is imperitive for all companies looking to sell print to multinational buyers locally or looking to export print. We are soliciting sponsorship support for this event. Prospective delegates and sponsors can contact infostar@ippstar.org.
IppStar has taken over and resumed the IPP technology and user conferences that began in 1994. The IPP XI Conference took place in Mumbai in December 2007 in collaboration with the Mumbai Mudrak Sangh. The IPP XII Conference also being organised jointly with the Mumbai Mudrak Sangh will take place on 19 December 2009. This event will be preceded by ten roadshows in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The Packaging South Asia website went live in 2008 and from 13 December 2008 we began our weekly PSA email newsletters. Although the circulation has continued to build to about 3,500 email addresses each week, we find that there are many newsletter that are either unopened or bounce. If you would like to subscribe to this free email newsletter please let us know at subscribe@ippgroup.in. In case you have already subscribed please make sure that your address book contains newsletter@ippgroup.in or you may find that it lands up in your spam or junk mail folder.
Lastly, the IPP Group began in April 1979 as an ethical consulting company and the publishers of a 4-page technical newsletter—Indian Printer and Publisher. As we begin our thirty-first year, we would like to thank our friends and supporters as well as our subscribers and advertisers.
