The Amcor-Alcan merger -- a love story?

Consolidation with an Asian angle

In February 2010, Amcor announced that the purchase of Alcan Packaging businesses from Rio Tinto had been completed, and that this acquisition provided Amcor with leading global positions in two strategic growth markets, that is -- flexible packaging (Table 1) and folding carton packaging for tobacco (Table 2). The transaction was concluded for an amount of US$ 1,948 million (approximately INR 100,000 crores) funded through a mix of 66% equity and 34% debt.
