Who can forget the packaged products in India during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s? Bottle caps just would not open with a simple twist and had to be “sawed open” with a sharp knife. Liquids would leak out of their packaging and were supplied overwrapped in clear poly bags to avoid staining other products and yet show their labelling. Hammers and nails had to be used to pierce open the nozzles of some packs to be able to start using them. Labels were applied with wet glue and pasted inaccurately. Branding and graphics were simplistic and reproduced crudely. These were the “third world” products of an isolated Indian market struggling to create a consumer base amidst the strict controls and licensing that marked the time. ...cont´d
