Established in 1977, Nichrome's association with Tata Tea began in 1984, when Nichrome designed and executed a linear weighing machine. More and more tea brands started catching on this trend. Tata Tea graduated from its older machine to a 4-line seal stand-up pouch machine, designed by Nichrome in the year 2005, and the first cost effective solution for the Indian packaging industry. In the earlier machines the tea leaves had to be filled manually. The new technology saved on this manual and tedious process, and automated the pouch formation and pouch filling, ensuring the safe and clean transfer of tea leaves into the designed pouches. Interestingly, the new process saved three to five per cent on the cost in relation to the premade pouch.
