We have been writing regularly about a number of new projects that Uflex, India’s leading integrated packaging company (2008 revenues: INR 40 billion = USD 0.8 billion; supplies to 94 countries worldwide) has been working on both in India and abroad. S Chidambar met Pradeep Tyle - Senior President of their Films operation - and Amit Ray, President of their Conversion operations, to get an update on these projects. Not only are the overseas projects going very well, there is also exciting news on new projects in India and interesting recent product developments.

Egypt films project - The USD 200 million joint venture in Egypt will commence with the installation of a state-of-the-art 8.7 metre wide 3-layer coextruded biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film plant that will run at 500 metres a minute and turn out 36,000 MT of film annually. The film line is being supplied by Dornier and will be supplemented by a 1200 metres/minute slitter-rewinder from Kampf and a 2.8 metre wide high-barrier vacuum metalliser with in-line plasma treatment. The plant is coming up at 6th of October City, which is located 28 kilometres from Cairo. 120,000 square metres of land have already been acquired and construction at the site commenced in June. The project is due to go into commercial production by the end of Q1 in 2010. The cornerstone of the plant was laid on 2 July 2009.
