“What IT did for urban India, packaging could do for rural India,” said P K Dash, IAS, Jt. Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, echoing a thought put across to him in a meeting held earlier in the day before the IndiaPack 2010 press meet. The joint organizers, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) and Koelnmesse formally announced the dates (Sept 30-Oct 3, 2010) for the next edition of IndiaPack 2010 in a press meet held in Mumbai on 11 January. The venue is Mumbai’s Bombay Exhibition Centre.

P K Dash, the Chief Guest, outlined his vision for IndiaPack. It is being strongly supported by the central government, through the ministries of food processing industries and the commerce and industry ministry. He said, “We must look at getting visitors from the African and ASEAN block. We would gladly bear the expenses for this visitor drive and also ensure expediting visa formalities. Let us look at getting exhibitors and visitors form North-East part of the country.” He also suggested taking the IndiaPack brand to other parts of the country, by reaching out to the actual markets in rural and tier II cities. He encouraged the organizers to make the IndiaPack show ASEAN’s largest fair. He further added, “We need a vibrant SME sector. 40% of all perishables like fruits and vegetables rot before reaching the consumers resulting in loss for the farmers. Thus large corporates and retail chains must be encouraged to be part of the value chain.”
Earlier, in his welcome address, Sanjay Bhatia the new Chairman of IIP welcomed the gathering. N C Saha, Director, IIP gave a complete run down on the current scenario of the Indian packaging industry and highlighted on IndiaPack 2010. This was followed by a status presentation by Ashwani Pande, MD, Koelnmesse Trade Fair India on IndiaPack 2010 and the concurrent events. Concurrent Events
IIP will be holding two concurrent events to the IndiaPack Show:
