India Boom Reads ‘Boon’ for Packaging

The existing $300 billion retail market is expected to reach $427 billion by 2010. Organised retail will grow from $9 billion to at least $40 billion by 2010. The largest organised segment will come from food and groceries, writes S Chidambar.

One of the most talked about subjects in recent months has been India’s impending organised retail boom. Indeed, there has been so much hype about the veritable “explosion” that is going to take place in this segment that it is perhaps appropriate for us to assess what this really means for the packaging industry. Can we see a revolution of sorts looming on the horizon that will galvanise the way in which products will be packaged and sold in India?
