The arrival of the monsoon has been enough for the government to raise petrol and diesel prices in their bid to further align retail with oil procurement prices. However we are counting on the rain to stop at 6 am every morning so that the several events that we are doing around the country can keep to schedule.

Packaging South Asia is at the PackPlus09 exhibition in Pragati Maidan in Delhi from 8 to 11 July in Hall 13 Stand number 77. This special issue features our second PackPlus 09 Preview, which will be followed by a comprehensive PackPlus 09 Review in our September-October issue.
IppStar – Ipp Services Training and Research will be organising a special human resources area at the PackPlus event with the help of the organisers and educational and industry institutions such as the Heidelberg Print Media Academy in Chennai in Hall 11 Stand 49. Within this area IppStar will organise a Careers 4 U event on 9 and 10 July.
On the morning of 9 July 2009 we will conduct a free of charge seminar led by HR thought leaders from both outside and inside our industry aimed at executive level engagement. PV Indiresan former director of IIT Chennai, will deliver the keynote at the seminar. Heidelberg Print Media Academy head Rajendrakumar Anayath and other industry leaders, CEOs, HR managers and senior executives will comprise the panel and audience.
On 10 July 2009, a few select companies will make presentations to perspective personnel about the opportunities on offer. IppStar’s idea is to give the packaging industry a joint human resource platform to project itself as a large and fast growing high technology area with excellent opportunities for the best young people. The Careers 4 U program at PackPlus 09 is to initiate a discussion on the career issues and challenges faced by the HR managers in packaging and related companies and ambitious executive level personnel. Are we ready for print standardisation?
IppStar Monsoon Summit on ISO 12647 standards in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai
IppStar is organising another important event later in the month – the Monsoon Summit on ISO 12647 implementation and certification that will take place on 14 July in New Delhi, 16 July in Mumbai, and 18 July in Chennai. The one-day intensives in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai will provide commercial and packaging printers with a comprehensive understanding of the ISO 12647 standard and the implications of its implementation. They will learn what the standard consists of, why it should be applied, what the implementation and certification process entails, how long it will take, and which prerequisites, costs and benefits are to be expected. More on page 46 and www.ippstar.org . There is an ad for the event in the centre of the magazine on pages 40-41.
It seems that the interest for this event and for the next level of colour management implementation has perked up. We have received registrations from small companies and as many as dozen from larger multi-location companies. This event makes sense for all interested in taking quality from a subjective and emotional level to a scientific and quantified eco-system including their customers and their reproduction process. While interesting for all who want to implement colour process standards in printing, our summit conferences are especially useful for offset prepress houses, commercial sheetfed printers and commercial and publication printers with heatset web offset presses. Of course it is important for the suppliers to be there – as we go forward we will need measurable and consistent consumables — papers, inks and plates. Register, come on time if you are attending and bring your umbrellas!
