Petrochemical companies have raised the prices for all polymer products worldwide. According to Business Standard, Indian manufacturers have revised the prices to compete with the international market. But even after increasing the prices three times since January 2011, prices are still Rs 6-7 cheaper than other international players. Polypropylene was raised by Rs 3 per kg while polyehylene by Rs 1.50 per kg recently by Indian oil, Haldia Petrochemicals, GAIL and Reliance. This rise can be indirectly attributed to the recent increase in the naphtha (or naphthelene) prices. Naphtha is a liquid product derived from coal tar or petroleum and is a mixture of different hydrocarbons. This is the feedstock used to produce olefins and gasoline. ...cont´d
