The largest milk producer in the world still has miles to go as far as meeting the increasing demand for processed milk and dairy products from organised sectors is concerned. Milk production continues to rise and one of the catalysts for this has been the dairy cooperative movement based in Anand in Gujarat. The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) was founded in 1965 to empower and transform the dairy sector into an instrument for the development of India’s rural sector. After the success of Operation Flood, NDDB created three commercial firms — Indian Immunologicals in Hyderabad, Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetables in Delhi, and IDMC at Anand — for the benefit of dairy farmers. ...cont´d
