Plastics arouse passions as well as debates. The manufacturers say plastics are omnipotent. The environmentalists say, plastics have no merits. All of us must have encountered slogans, such as “Ban Plastics” and “Say No To Plastics”. The debate rages. However, despite best efforts, plastic has slowly crept into our lives in various usages. Worldwide consumption of plastics has increased from less than 5 MMT in the 1950s to over 100 MMT in recent years. All of us use plastic products daily, but, knowingly or unknowingly, some of us discard them after use in an irresponsible manner. Maybe, we can call it ‘littering’.
