Many women and now men increasingly use sunscreens in summers to avoid sunburns. In our initial exploration of a single category’s packaging, we look at these creams and lotions in kirana stores, supermarkets and departments stores in the Delhi NCR. Aakriti Agarwal reports.

With increasingly high temperature every year and environmental degradation leading to global warming, the human skin is one of the many things that is affected badly. Wikipedia defines sunscreens (also called sunblocks) as a lotion, spray, gel or other topical product that absorbs or reflects some of he sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation on the skin exposed to sunlight and thus helps protect against sunburn. Retailers and shopkeepers agree that summer is the peak sale period though they are sold throughout the year. With many brands available in market leading to cut throat competition, we attempted to observe how the Indian sunscreen brands manage to stand out and remain competitive.
