Polluter pays
Supreme Court to invoke "polluter pays" principle on gutkha manufacturers

The Supreme court is mulling to invoke the "polluter pays" principle to force gutkha, tobacco and pan masala manufacturers to foot the bill to undo the damage caused to human health and environment. A bench comprising Justices G S Singhvi and Ashok Kumar Ganguly has sought the assistance of solicitor general Gopal Subramanium in deciding the issue.
