Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd (TNPL), established by the state government, has earmarked some expansion plans. The company, however, refused to comment on the quantum of investment that would be required to fund those plans. As part of its modernisation, TNPL is setting up a 600 tonnes per day mini cement plant for producing high grade cement from out of lime sludge generated in the process of manufacture of paper. The plant under construction is likely to be commissioned by December 2011. The cement plant has a capital outlay of Rs 69 crore and will be set up at the company’s manufacturing unit in Karur.
