UPM Raflatac, a global leader in labelstock and RFID tags and inlays, have started up a new manufacturing plant in Guangzhou in China for producing high frequency (HF) and ultra high frequency (UHF) passive RFID tags and inlays. The plant has an annual capacity of 100 million pieces at the moment but this can be scaled up to several hundred millions of pieces according to market demand. With this plant, UPM Raflatac will consolidate their global RFID presence as they now have manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe and Asia.

This plant facilitates direct access to the Asian RFID market especially that in China, which was the world’s largest in 2008. In Asia, UPM Raflatac serves several RFID end-use segments including apparel, ticketing, supply chain management, pharmaceuticals, media management, transportation and industrial applications. The plant will also manufacture tags and inlays for export.
According to Christer Harkonen, Senior Vice President of UPM Raflatac’s RFID business, “The opportunity to operate locally gives us a solid base for growth in the Asian market and at the same time validates our position as the globally leading manufacturer of RFID tags and inlays.”
