Labels were long considered a part of the offset printing industry. Wet glue labels were the only type of product labels that predominantly existed till not very long ago. Eventually the self adhesive label segment evolved and emerged as a specific product line and transformed to a distinct industry with a character of its own. Initially called ‘stickers,’ these were first produced by silk screen and then by offset printers who printed the coated art paper on sheetfed offset and sent them out to screen printers for gumming, drying and affixing the silicone release paper as backing.
